Checked October 26, 2026. Prices were read on each vendor's own pricing page. Several tools (Shop-Ware, ALLDATA's Diagnostic Intelligence and Otter's paid plans) do not give a price we could quote, and AutoLeap's page was read through a fetch tool only; we say so. Prices change: re-check before you buy. Dooza Crew is our product and our top pick for small shops; we say why, and where the others fit better.
Best AI tools for auto repair shops: the short answer
Our top pick for an independent auto repair shop is Dooza Crew: AI employees that answer calls, chase estimates and draft the follow-up emails the front desk never gets to, $49 a month for the whole organization, and it asks before it sends anything. If you want AI built into your shop software, check AutoLeap and Shop-Ware. For diagnostic guidance for technicians, ALLDATA. For a stand-alone AI phone line, Trillet or Goodcall. For call notes, Fathom has a free plan.
How many auto repair shops use AI in 2026
Ratchet+Wrench, a trade magazine for shop owners, reported on its 2025 survey: "AI-powered scheduling systems lead the way with over half of the 2025 Ratchet+Wrench Industry Survey Report respondents (52%) noting that their shops incorporate these tools into their processes."
That is a magazine's reader survey from 2025, so read it as one data point. It does show where shops start: the front desk. Scheduling, the phone and follow-ups come before anything under the hood. The tools below cover the office, plus one for technicians.

1. Dooza Crew (our product, top pick): AI employees for the shop office
Most independent shops lose work at the counter: a call that rang out while the advisor was under a car, an estimate that never got a follow-up, a form waiting on the desk. Crew gives your shop AI employees, each with its own computer and browser and its own job. They work around the clock, work with your team in one chat, and pass work to each other. Before one sends an email or clicks Send, Submit or Pay, it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject.
Example jobs you could give it: you could give one agent the job of answering the phone and taking a message for every new appointment request; another the job of drafting a polite follow-up to every estimate that has gone quiet; another the job of drafting service-reminder emails; another the job of filling a fillable PDF or Excel form you upload, such as a customer intake sheet or a parts request. Crew works in web-based tools you log in to with a browser, and you type passwords and 2FA codes yourself.
- Forms: it fills fillable PDF, Word and Excel files you upload. Scanned PDFs without form fields cannot be filled.
- Phones: Crew agents take phone calls too, included in the plan.
- Price: free for 7 days (card required), then $49 a month for the whole organization (unlimited users and agents), AI usage included with a hard spending cap. At the cap it pauses and tells you.
- Watch for: no auto repair software (AutoLeap, Shop-Ware, Tekmetric or any other) is certified or integrated with it, so it does not sync with your shop system; it works only in web tools you log in to. It is not an ASE-certified technician: diagnoses, repair authorizations and warranty decisions stay with you.

2. AutoLeap: shop software with an AI receptionist
AutoLeap is shop management software for independent and multi-location shops. Its page calls AIR "Industry's First Ever AI Receptionist for Auto Shops" and says it "answers instantly, captures customer details, and keeps your business connected 24/7". It adds appointment requests to the shop calendar and writes call summaries.
3. Shop-Ware: AI parts pricing and an AI receptionist
Shop-Ware is shop management software. Its home page says "Hit your parts pricing targets every time with our industry-first AI-powered tool." That is the AI Parts Matrix. It also lists an AI Receptionist under Customer Experience, with no description on that page.
- Price: not published. The pricing page returned an error to us and the home page lists no prices.
- Free trial: none stated.
- Watch for: ask for a demo and get the AI Receptionist's price in writing before you count on it.
4. ALLDATA: AI-assisted diagnostic guidance
ALLDATA sells OEM repair information. Its Diagnostic Intelligence product promises "Get AI-assisted guidance with prioritized probable causes and known fixes", starting from a trouble code or symptom.
- Price: the product page shows several monthly and annual amounts without labels clear enough to quote, so see the page for the one that applies to your shop.
- Free trial: "7-day free trial!" on ALLDATA Repair; not stated for Diagnostic Intelligence.
- Watch for: it assists a technician and does not replace one. The diagnosis stays with your tech.
5. Trillet: a slim AI receptionist
Trillet's AI Receptionist "answers the inbound calls you miss, books appointments, and sends you summaries". It is not auto-specific.
6. Goodcall: AI phone answering with a free demo agent
Goodcall builds an AI agent for your business line. Its pricing page says "Start free with a demo agent. Add a number when you're ready."
- Price: "$79" (Starter), $129 (Growth) and $299 (Scale) a month. Billing is per unique customer: one phone number counts once a month.
- Free trial: a free demo agent; you pay only when you connect a number.
- Watch for: per-customer billing grows with your call volume, and it is not auto-specific.
7. Smith.ai: call answering and intake
Smith.ai answers calls and takes messages and intake for small businesses. It is not auto-specific.
8. Fathom: free AI notes for calls
Fathom records and transcribes video calls with "Instant AI call summaries". Useful for calls with parts suppliers or fleet customers held on video, and for team meetings.
- Price: "Free forever" plan; Premium shows $20 and $16 per user per month (the page does not label which is annual), so budget from $16.
- Watch for: it covers video meetings, not phone calls to the shop, and it does not put notes into your shop software.
9. Otter: AI meeting notes with a free plan
Otter makes AI notes and transcripts for meetings. Its plans are Basic, Pro, Business and Enterprise, and the Basic plan has a start-for-free button.
- Price: paid plans are shown with promotional discounts on the page, so we do not quote a number; check the page.
- Watch for: like Fathom, it records meetings, not the phone at your counter.
Free AI tools and trials for auto repair shops
- Call notes: Fathom's free forever plan, Otter's free Basic plan.
- AI phone line: Goodcall's free demo agent, until you connect a number.
- Trials: ALLDATA Repair 7 days, Dooza Crew 7 days (card required).
- Money-back: Trillet 28 days, Smith.ai 30 days.
How to choose an AI tool for your auto repair shop
- Start with the leak. Missed calls, estimates that go quiet, parts pricing, or diagnosis time. Pick the one that costs you the most jobs.
- Check your shop software first. If you already pay for AutoLeap or Shop-Ware, ask what AI is built in before buying a second tool. Dooza Crew and the phone tools do not integrate with them.
- Count your calls. Smith.ai charges per call and Goodcall per unique caller; Dooza Crew is a flat monthly price and Trillet adds per-minute fees past 150.
- Keep sign-off human. Pick tools that ask before they send, and keep diagnoses, repair authorizations and warranty decisions with you.
- Test on one channel for a week before you route every call to a bot.
