Checked October 26, 2026. Prices were read on each vendor's own pricing page. Several agency tools (Sonant, Applied Epic, EZLynx) do not publish prices; we say so. Prices change: re-check before you buy. Dooza Crew is our product and our top pick for independent agencies; we say why, and where the others fit better.
Best AI tools for insurance agents: the short answer
Our top pick for an independent agency is Dooza Crew: AI employees for carrier portals, the inbox, certificates, renewals and lead follow-up, $49 a month for the whole organization, and it asks before it sends anything. For an AI receptionist built for P&C agencies, look at Sonant or Frontdesk. If you run Applied Epic or EZLynx, check the AI already inside them (Epic Max, EZLynx EVA). For call notes, Fathom and Fireflies have free plans.
How many insurance agents use AI in 2026
Most agents have tried it; few agencies have built it in. In Liberty Mutual's 2026 study, "65% of agents used AI on the job at least a few times in the past year—up from 37% in 2025", yet "Fourteen percent of agents said their agency has already implemented an AI tool or solution". The Big "I" Agents Council for Technology found "just 8% said AI is currently embedded in their daily workflows", while 45% use ChatGPT and other public large language models. The gap is between agents trying chat tools and agencies running AI on real work.

1. Dooza Crew (our product, top pick): AI employees for the agency back office
Crew gives an independent agency AI employees: one for carrier portals, one for the inbox, one for certificates and changes, one for renewals, one for lead follow-up. Each has its own computer and browser, works around the clock, and works with your CSRs and producers in one chat. Before it sends anything, it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject.
- Portals and forms: it works in web-based systems you log in to with a browser (carrier portals, webmail, agency tools). It fills fillable PDFs such as ACORD 25 and 125 when you upload your copy. Scanned PDFs without form fields cannot be filled.
- Phones: Crew agents take phone calls too, included in the plan.
- Price: free for 7 days (card required), then $49 a month for the whole organization (unlimited users and agents), AI usage included with a hard spending cap.
- Watch for: no agency management system is certified yet (Applied Epic, EZLynx, HawkSoft), so test it on yours during the trial. It is not a comparative rater.

2. Sonant: the AI receptionist built for P&C agencies
Sonant answers agency calls, verifies the caller, handles routine requests and routes the rest, and connects to EZLynx, Applied Epic, HawkSoft and AMS360. Its home page says "Sonant is now an Applied Epic Certified Vendor Integration".
3. Frontdesk: an AI receptionist with a public price
Frontdesk answers calls, takes claims intake, qualifies quote calls and books the producer call, with integrations for Applied Epic, Vertafore AMS360, EZLynx and HawkSoft. Its insurance page says "The AI does not bind policies or quote rates directly."
- Price: Business-in-a-Box $99/mo, or $79/mo billed annually, including 200 voice minutes; 7-day free trial (Frontdesk pricing).
- Watch for: minutes past the included 200 are billed as overage, and its insurance page shows a different monthly figure than the pricing page; confirm before you buy.
4. Smith.ai: AI or human call answering
Smith.ai answers calls 24/7 and lets you choose AI-first, hybrid or human-first handling, with lead qualifying and appointment booking. It is not insurance-specific.
- Price: receptionist Starter plan $300/month for 30 calls, with $11.50 per call over 30 (Smith.ai pricing).
- Watch for: the prices we read are for the human receptionist plans and are per call, which adds up for a busy agency.
5. Agent CRM: an insurance CRM with AgentAI
Agent CRM's AgentAI lets you "Train your own AI-powered assistant that automates lead follow-up and customer communication for you."
- Price: Agency Package $495 per month; DIY Agency Account $1000 one-time setup plus $495 per month; free trial (Agent CRM agency page).
- Watch for: texting needs A2P registration, and the agency pages show slightly different prices; confirm on a call.
6. Applied Epic Epic Max: AI inside your AMS
Applied announced that "Epic Max extends Applied Epic with built-in AI capabilities, including advanced research, natural language Q&A" and information recaps.
- Price: not public; ask your Applied rep.
- Watch for: only for agencies already on Applied Epic.
7. EZLynx EVA: AI inside EZLynx
EZLynx added three EVA features: Email Content Assist (drafts with your length, tone and topic), Account Summarization (a recap of the communication history with suggested next steps) and Product Assistance (how-to answers about EZLynx) (EZLynx AI features).
- Price: not public; the page does not say whether EVA is included in a plan.
- Watch for: EZLynx users only, and it helps with email and summaries, not quoting.
8. Fathom: free AI notes for client calls
Fathom records Zoom, Meet and Teams calls and gives instant AI call summaries, handy for prospect and renewal reviews.
- Price: Free forever; Premium $20/month ($16 billed annually); Team $19 per user ($15 annually, 2-user minimum); Business $34 ($25 annually) (Fathom pricing).
- Watch for: no insurance workflow and no logging into your AMS.
9. Fireflies.ai: meeting transcripts for the whole team
Fireflies transcribes and summarizes meetings and has an AI assistant, AskFred, for questions about past calls.
- Price: Free forever (limited AI summaries); Pro $10 per seat per month billed annually ($18 monthly); Business $19 per seat billed annually ($29 monthly) (Fireflies pricing).
- Watch for: the free plan has limited AI summaries and 20 AI credits.
10. Claude (or ChatGPT): a general assistant for writing and reading
General chat assistants draft client emails and summarize long policy documents. They are the AI most agents already use: 45% of agencies in the ACT report use ChatGPT and other public large language models.
- Price: Claude Free $0; Pro $17/month billed annually ($20 monthly); Team $20 per seat billed annually ($25 monthly) (Claude pricing). ChatGPT has a free plan; see its pricing page for paid plans.
- Watch for: not built for insurance, no AMS link, and client data needs your agency's AI policy first.
Free AI tools for insurance agents
- Call notes: Fathom and Fireflies free plans.
- Writing and reading: Claude and ChatGPT free plans (no client details without an AI policy).

How to choose an AI tool for your agency
- Start with the job that eats the most hours. Phones, the service inbox, certificates, renewals or lead follow-up.
- Check your AMS first. If you run Applied Epic or EZLynx, see what AI you already pay for.
- Keep licensed decisions human. Pick tools that ask before they send and never bind or change coverage.
- Write a one-page AI policy. Only 18% of agents say their agency has a well-defined one.
