Checked October 26, 2026. Prices were read on each vendor's own pricing page. Zenoti does not publish a price, and Fresha showed local-currency prices to us, so Fresha is not in the list. Prices change: re-check before you buy. Dooza Crew is our product and our top pick for the admin around a small salon; we say why, and where the others fit better.
Best AI tools for salons: the short answer
Our top pick for the admin around a small salon, barbershop or spa is Dooza Crew: AI employees that draft client and supplier emails, fill forms you upload and answer the phone, $49 a month for the whole organization, and they ask before sending anything or clicking Pay. If you want AI inside your booking calendar, the AI receptionists in Vagaro, Booksy, Mangomint, GlossGenius's AI helpers, Boulevard and Zenoti are built for that. For a human-plus-AI phone line, Smith.ai. For promo and social copy, Jasper.
How many small businesses use AI in 2026
Most, but shallowly. Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses Voices program reported on March 17, 2026: "In a recent survey, 76% of small businesses said they are currently using artificial intelligence, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive."
The gap is in depth: "Only 14% of small businesses are fully integrating AI into core operations, suggesting many are still in early stages of adoption." That survey covers small businesses in general, not only salons, and Goldman Sachs runs the program, so treat it as one data point. We did not find a salon-only survey from a primary source. It does match what owners tell us: lots of people have tried a chatbot, few have AI doing a repeatable job every day.

1. Dooza Crew (our product, top pick): AI employees for the admin around the chair
A small salon owner is often behind the chair all day and doing the paperwork at night: client emails, supplier reorders, booth-rental forms, a phone that rings mid-colour. Crew gives your salon AI employees, each with its own computer and browser and its own job. They work around the clock, work with your team in one chat, and pass work to each other. Before one sends an email or clicks Send, Submit or Pay, it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject.
Example jobs you could give it: you could give one agent the job of answering the phone and taking a message while you are with a client; another the job of drafting replies to price and availability questions for you to approve; another the job of filling a fillable PDF or Excel form you upload, such as a supplier account application or a booth-rental agreement; another the job of drafting your weekly product reorder email to your supplier for your approval.
- Works in: web-based tools you log in to with a browser. You type passwords and 2FA codes yourself.
- Forms: it fills fillable PDF, Word and Excel files you upload. Scanned PDFs without form fields cannot be filled.
- Phones: Crew agents take phone calls too, included in the plan.
- Price: free for 7 days (card required), then $49 a month for the whole organization (unlimited users and agents), AI usage included with a hard spending cap. At the cap it pauses and tells you.
- Watch for: no booking software (Vagaro, Fresha, Boulevard or any other) is integrated, so it does not sync with your calendar; it works only in web tools you log in to. Pricing, discounts and anything about your clients' skin or health stay with you.

2. Vagaro: booking software with the Vera AI assistant
Vagaro's pricing page says "Vagaro’s AI assistant, Vera, helps automate marketing, fill empty appointment slots, create descriptions, and communicate with clients."
3. Booksy: booking software with an AI Receptionist
Booksy lists an "AI Receptionist" alongside online booking and no-show protection.
4. Mangomint: booking software with Mira
Mangomint says: "Meet Mira: the AI receptionist that turns calls and texts into bookings."
5. GlossGenius: booking and payments with AI teammates
GlossGenius has a section called "Powerful AI Teammates", with a Growth Analyst and an AI Marketing Assistant.
6. Boulevard: salon software with the Beau AI receptionist
Boulevard says: "Boulevard's new AI Receptionist answers every call, helps clients book, and captures leads 24/7. Built into your Boulevard platform."
- Price: Essentials "$143" a month for 1 location (built for small teams with simple operations); Premier $234 a month per location (shown as normally $293). The page does not say whether Beau is included or extra.
- Free trial: none stated; the buttons say "Get a demo".
- Watch for: it costs several times the booking apps above, which matters if you run one chair or a few.
7. Zenoti: salon and spa software with an AI receptionist
Zenoti's pricing page headlines "Never Miss a Booking with AI Receptionist" and also mentions "Meet Zeenie Your AI Assistant".
- Price: not published (contact sales); the buttons say "Book a demo".
- Free trial: none stated.
- Watch for: it is aimed at larger groups and chains, and you only learn the price after a demo.
8. Smith.ai: phone answering
Smith.ai answers calls for small businesses: "Professional call answering by real people—trained in your field, fluent in your workflows, available 24/7."
9. Jasper: promo and social copy

Free AI tools and trials for salons
- Trials: Vagaro 30 days, Booksy 14 days, GlossGenius and Mangomint (free trial, length not stated), Jasper 7 days, Dooza Crew 7 days (card required). Boulevard and Zenoti start with a demo.
- Free plans: none among the tools we checked.
How to choose an AI tool for your salon
- Start with the time sink. Missed calls, rebooking, promo posts, or the inbox. Fix the biggest one first.
- Use what your booking app already gives you. If you are on Vagaro, Booksy, Mangomint or Boulevard, try its own AI before paying for another. Dooza Crew and the other general tools here do not plug into your calendar.
- Do the volume sum. Vagaro and Mangomint charge per team member, Smith.ai per call. Price it for your busiest month and your full team.
- Keep client decisions with you. Prices, discounts and anything about a client's skin or health stay with you. Pick tools that ask before they send or pay.
- Test on one job for a week (say, answering the phone after hours) before you route everything through it.
