Checked October 26, 2026. Prices were read on each vendor's own pricing page. Shopify's page showed local-currency prices to us and Klaviyo's paid prices were not readable, so we do not quote those; we say so. Prices change: re-check before you buy. Dooza Crew is our product and our top pick for the busywork around a small store; we say why, and where the others fit better.

Best AI tools for ecommerce: the short answer

Our top pick for the busywork around a small online store is Dooza Crew: AI employees that draft customer replies, fill supplier and return forms and answer the phone, $49 a month for the whole organization, and they ask before sending anything or clicking Pay. For AI built into your store, Shopify's Sidekick. For support, Gorgias or Tidio. For email and SMS, Klaviyo or Omnisend. For product photos, Photoroom. For Meta ads, Madgicx. For product copy, Jasper. For a phone line, Smith.ai.

How many small businesses use AI in 2026

Most, but shallowly. Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses Voices program reported on March 17, 2026: "In a recent survey, 76% of small businesses said they are currently using artificial intelligence, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive."

The gap is in depth: "Only 14% of small businesses are fully integrating AI into core operations, suggesting many are still in early stages of adoption." That survey covers small businesses in general, not only online stores, and Goldman Sachs runs the program, so treat it as one data point. It does match what store owners tell us: plenty of people have tried a chatbot, few have AI doing a repeatable job every day.

The tools, one by one

1. Dooza Crew (our product, top pick): AI employees for the work around the store

Running a small store means a pile of repeat tasks that are not selling: "where is my order" emails, supplier forms, return requests, a phone that rings while you pack boxes. Crew gives your store AI employees, each with its own computer and browser and its own job. They work around the clock, work with your team in one chat, and pass work to each other. Before one sends an email or clicks Send, Submit or Pay, it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject.

Example jobs you could give it: you could give one agent the job of drafting replies to customers asking about their order, using a shipping or carrier site you log in to, for you to approve; another the job of answering the phone and taking a message; another the job of filling a fillable PDF or Excel form you upload, such as a wholesale application or a return form; another the job of drafting reorder emails to your suppliers for your approval.

  • Works in: web-based tools you log in to with a browser. You type passwords and 2FA codes yourself.
  • Forms: it fills fillable PDF, Word and Excel files you upload. Scanned PDFs without form fields cannot be filled.
  • Phones: Crew agents take phone calls too, included in the plan.
  • Price: free for 7 days (card required), then $49 a month for the whole organization (unlimited users and agents), AI usage included with a hard spending cap. At the cap it pauses and tells you.
  • Watch for: no store platform (Shopify, WooCommerce or any other) is integrated, so it works only in web tools you log in to. Refunds, payments and pricing decisions stay with you; Crew asks before clicking Pay.

Try Dooza Crew free for 7 days.

2. Shopify: Sidekick, the AI assistant inside your store

If you already sell on Shopify, the AI is in the admin. The pricing page says "Sidekick is your commerce-obsessed best friend, ready to help you sell." The plan list shows a "Built-in AI assistant" and lets you "Sell online, in person, and in AI chats".

  • Price: not quoted here. The page we fetched showed local-currency amounts, not US dollars, so check Shopify's pricing page for your country.
  • Free trial: "3 days free".
  • Watch for: it works only inside Shopify; stores on other platforms do not get it.

3. Gorgias: support helpdesk with an AI Agent

Gorgias is a helpdesk for online stores: "Helpdesk + AI Agent." It says "AI Agent on every plan, pay only when it resolves a conversation."

4. Tidio: live chat with the Lyro AI agent

Tidio combines live chat with an AI agent. Of Lyro it says: "Answer common questions and perform recurring tasks automatically so your team can focus on growing your business."

  • Price: Starter "$24.17" a month with 100 billable conversations and "50 Lyro AI Agent conversations (one-off)"; Growth starts at $49.17 a month; the Lyro AI Agent on its own starts at $32.50 a month; Plus is $300/mo plus monthly usage. The prices shown use the annual toggle ("2 months free").
  • Free trial: "7-day free trial".
  • Watch for: Starter includes only 50 AI conversations as a one-off, and heavier use moves you to usage-based plans.

5. Klaviyo: email and SMS with AI helpers

Klaviyo lists two AI products on its site: Composer, which will "Audit and create flows + campaigns from a prompt", and Customer Agent, to "Support + sell with AI powered by your data".

  • Price: the free plan has "Up to 250 profiles", "500 emails/month" and "$5 of Composer usage/month". Paid prices depend on a profile slider that we could not read in the page text, so we do not quote them.
  • Free trial: the free plan, with no time limit stated.
  • Watch for: the free plan stops at 250 profiles and 500 emails a month, so a growing list moves you to paid quickly.

6. Omnisend: email and SMS, with a free plan

Omnisend is a similar email and SMS tool for stores. It lists "Personalized product recommender AI" and "Forms AI creates the full design, copy, and visuals from your prompt."

7. Photoroom: product photos

Photoroom makes product images without a photo studio. Plans list "AI Backgrounds" and "AI Fashion Models".

8. Madgicx: AI for Meta ads

Madgicx calls itself "the first Ecom Ad Cloud", with AI ad generation, optimization and analytics for Meta ads.

9. Jasper: product copy and campaigns

Jasper is "the generative platform built for marketing success, empowering marketers to create on-brand written and visual content with AI."

10. Smith.ai: phone answering

Smith.ai answers calls for small businesses: "Professional call answering by real people—trained in your field, fluent in your workflows, available 24/7." You choose AI-first, hybrid or human-first handling.

Free AI tools and trials for online stores

  • Email and SMS: Klaviyo's free plan (250 profiles) and Omnisend's free plan ($0, 500 emails, 250 contacts).
  • Trials: Tidio 7 days, Jasper 7 days, Madgicx 7 days, Shopify 3 days, Gorgias and Photoroom (length not stated), Dooza Crew 7 days (card required).

How to choose an AI tool for your store

  1. Start with the time sink. Support emails, product photos, email campaigns, or phone calls. Fix the biggest one first.
  2. Use what your platform already gives you. If you are on Shopify, try Sidekick before paying for a second assistant. Dooza Crew and the other tools here do not plug into your store platform.
  3. Do the volume sum. Gorgias charges by ticket, Smith.ai by call, Klaviyo by profile. Price it for your busiest month, not your average one.
  4. Keep money decisions with you. Refunds, payments and pricing stay with the owner. Pick tools that ask before they send or pay.
  5. Test on one flow for a week (say, order-status emails) before you route everything through it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best AI tools for a small ecommerce store?

For the busywork around the store, our top pick is Dooza Crew (our product): AI employees that draft customer replies, fill supplier and return forms and answer the phone, for $49 a month for the whole organization after a 7-day free trial. It asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject before it sends anything, and before it clicks Pay. For specific jobs: Shopify's built-in Sidekick, Gorgias or Tidio for support, Klaviyo or Omnisend for email, Photoroom for product photos and Madgicx for Meta ads.

How many small businesses use AI?

Most do. In a Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses survey published March 17, 2026, 76% of small businesses said they are currently using artificial intelligence, but only 14% are fully integrating it into core operations. That is small businesses in general, not only online stores.

What is the best AI customer support tool for an online store?

Gorgias is built for ecommerce support: its Starter plan is $40 a month (a $10 helpdesk plus a $30 AI Agent) for 50 tickets a month, billed monthly, with a free trial. Tidio's Starter is $24.17 a month with a 7-day free trial, and its Lyro AI Agent is also sold on its own from $32.50 a month. Refunds and exceptions should stay with you.

Is there a free AI tool for ecommerce?

Klaviyo has a free plan (up to 250 profiles and 500 emails a month), and Omnisend has a free plan at $0 with 500 emails and 250 contacts. Free trials: Tidio 7 days, Jasper 7 days, Madgicx 7 days, Shopify 3 days, Gorgias and Photoroom a free trial, and Dooza Crew 7 days (card required).

Can AI handle refunds and pricing for my store?

It should not decide them. Dooza Crew drafts replies and asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject before it sends, and it asks before it clicks Pay. No store platform (Shopify, WooCommerce or any other) is integrated with it, so it works only in web tools you log in to. Refunds, payments and pricing decisions stay with the owner.

Does Dooza Crew work with Shopify?

There is no Shopify integration. Crew agents work in web-based tools you log in to with a browser, so an agent could be given a job in a web admin you sign in to, but you type passwords and 2FA codes yourself, and it asks before it sends, submits or pays. If you want AI built into Shopify itself, look at Shopify Sidekick.
