Best AI tools for interior designers: the short answer

Our top pick for the business side of a small design studio is Dooza Crew: AI employees for the jobs that eat your evenings, such as sourcing price checks, trade-account forms and client emails, $49 a month for the whole organization, and it asks before it sends anything. If you want design and project software with AI, Houzz Pro starts at $99 a month, Studio Designer at $69 per user a month billed annually, and DesignFiles has two plans shown as 55 and 75. For notes and calls, Fireflies has a free plan, Smith.ai has a free plan, and Rosie starts at $49 a month.

Who this list is for

This list is for solo designers and small studios, from one person to a team of ten, not large firms. Designers are using AI, though estimates vary. Business of Home reported in July 2025 that "The report, based on a survey of 722 construction and design firms on Houzz, says that 31 percent of designers now use AI." (Houzz sells software, the sample mixes construction and design firms, and the figure is from 2025, so read it as a rough guide.)

A small studio has a designer who is also the sourcer, the bookkeeper and the person chasing client approvals, with trade-account applications, vendor price checks and follow-up emails piling up after the site visit. The tools below fall into three groups: design and project software with AI inside, AI for meetings and phone calls, and AI that does office work in your browser.

The tools, one by one

1. Dooza Crew (our product, top pick): AI employees for the studio's office work

Crew gives a design studio AI employees, each with its own computer and browser and its own job. They work around the clock, work with your team in one chat, and pass work to each other. They work in the web-based tools you log in to with a browser, and Crew agents take phone calls too, included in the plan. Before an agent sends an email or clicks Send, Submit or Pay, it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject.

Some jobs you could give it:

  • Sourcing: you could give one agent the job of checking price and availability for the fabrics, furniture and fixtures on your shortlist across the vendor websites you log in to, and putting them in a comparison sheet for you to review.
  • Forms: you could give one agent the job of filling the fillable PDF, Word and Excel forms you upload, such as trade-account applications or resale certificate forms. Scanned PDFs without form fields cannot be filled. You type passwords and 2FA codes yourself.
  • Client email: you could give one agent the job of drafting project update emails and approval reminders for you to approve before they go out.
  • Calls: you could give one agent the job of answering the studio phone, taking messages and sending you a summary.
  • Price: free for 7 days (card required), then $49 a month for the whole organization (unlimited users and agents), AI usage included with a hard spending cap. At the cap it pauses and tells you.
  • Watch for: no interior design software (Houzz Pro, Studio Designer, DesignFiles) is certified or integrated with it, so it does not sync with your project software; it works only in web tools you log in to. Contracts, purchase orders and payments stay with you: it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject before it sends or pays. Test it on your own vendor sites during the trial.

2. Houzz Pro: design and project software with Houzz AI

The Houzz Pro pricing page opens with "Build the Future with AI, Today." Features tagged "HOUZZ AI" include AI Note-Taking, Photorealistic Renders, 3D Floor Plans, and Front Desk and Verified Caller, both marked Beta.

  • Price: Design is $99 a month; Pro is $199 a month; Teams starts at $399 a month with unlimited users; additional users are $50 per user per month (Houzz Pro pricing).
  • Trial: the page offers "Try Houzz Pro for Free" with "No credit card required", and a FAQ titled "How does the 30-day free trial work?". It also says "Just getting started? Explore tools with our Free Plan."
  • Watch for: the page does not make clear which AI features come with which plan, and two are Beta. Ask during the trial.

3. Studio Designer: firm management with AI rendering

Studio Designer calls itself "The Fully Integrated Business Solution for Interior Designers". It covers proposals, purchase orders, invoices, a client portal and accounting, and lists "Catalog + AI rendering" in all three plans, plus an "Embedded AI Catalog" in its menu.

  • Price: billed annually, Essentials is $69 per user per month, Professional is $79 and Premier is $109; billed monthly they are $79, $89 and $119 per user (Studio Designer pricing).
  • Trial: none stated; the buttons are "Get a Demo" and "Sign Up".
  • Watch for: pricing is per user, there is no trial stated, and the page says account set up is mandatory for all accounts. It is a full accounting and purchasing system, which is more than a solo designer may need.

4. DesignFiles: design, sourcing and invoicing in one system

DesignFiles says "DesignFiles connects your design work, sourcing, invoicing, and client communication in one system." Its named AI feature is "AI Render".

  • Price: the e-Design plan shows 55 and the Full Service plan shows 75, each with "+$30/mo per additional user"; Enterprise is "Call for Pricing" (DesignFiles plans). The dollar sign does not appear next to 55 and 75 in the page text, so confirm the price on the live page.
  • Trial: "No credit card required. Cancel anytime." The plans page offers a "90-day money-back guarantee".
  • Watch for: the AI is mainly rendering, and quotes, invoices, purchase orders and contracts are on the Full Service plan, not e-Design.

5. Fireflies.ai: AI notes for client and vendor meetings

Fireflies records and summarizes meetings. Its free plan lists "Unlimited transcription" with "Limited AI summaries" and "20 AI credits".

  • Price: Free is $0; Pro is $18 per seat per month, or $10 billed annually; Business is $29 per seat per month, or $19 billed annually (Fireflies pricing).
  • Free plan: "Free forever"
  • Watch for: the free plan limits AI summaries, and it records client meetings, so tell clients before you record.

6. Smith.ai AI Receptionist: a free plan to start

Smith.ai's AI Receptionist offers 24/7 AI call answering with recording, transcription and summaries, call routing and AI scheduling with Calendly and similar tools.

  • Price: Free $0 a month for 25 calls ($3.00 per call after that); Pro $150 a month ($2.00 per call); Enterprise $500 a month ($1.67 per call) (Smith.ai AI Receptionist pricing).
  • Free plan: "Try it and trust it first."
  • Watch for: a general small-business tool; it names Calendly, Clio and Zapier but no design software.

7. Rosie: a low-cost AI answering service

Rosie is a "24/7 AI answering service that knows your business."

  • Price: Professional $49 per month; Scale $149 per month; Growth $299 per month (Rosie pricing).
  • Trial: "Start your 7-day free trial."
  • Watch for: plans are tiered by volume, and it connects to other software through Zapier rather than named design software.

8. Goodcall: pay per caller, not per minute

Goodcall bills by unique customer: "We never meter minutes."

  • Price: Starter $79 a month (100 unique customers); Growth $129 a month (500 unique customers); Scale $299 a month (Goodcall pricing).
  • Trial: "Start free with a demo agent."
  • Watch for: it counts different callers, so a busy launch week raises your count, and it is not design-specific.

9. Dialzara: a low-cost AI receptionist

Dialzara answers calls, takes messages with custom questions and transfers calls.

  • Price: Business Lite $29/month for up to 60 minutes ($0.48/min over); Business Pro $99/month for 220 minutes (Dialzara pricing).
  • Free trial: "7-day free trial", no contract, cancel anytime.
  • Watch for: you pay by talk minutes, and it is not specific to design work.

Free AI tools and trials for designers

  • Free plans: Fireflies (limited AI summaries), Smith.ai AI Receptionist (25 calls a month), and a Free Plan mentioned on the Houzz Pro page.

  • Demo only: Studio Designer.

Trust and checking the work

A design business runs on trust with clients and vendors. An AI that emails a client the wrong price, books the wrong appointment or places a purchase order you did not approve costs far more than a slow afternoon. Before you route your main line to an AI, run test calls and listen to the recordings; check every rendering against what you actually specified; and tell clients when you record a meeting. Contracts, purchase orders and payments should stay with you. With Dooza Crew, agents ask you to Approve, Edit or Reject before they send an email or click Send, Submit or Pay, which keeps you the last stop on anything that leaves the studio.

How to choose an AI tool for your studio

  1. Start with the job that costs you most. Renderings, sourcing checks, missed calls, meeting notes, or the admin that piles up at night.
  2. Check your design software first. If you already run Houzz Pro, Studio Designer or DesignFiles, see what AI it includes before you add another tool.
  3. Do the math your way. Studio Designer prices per user, Houzz Pro by plan with extra users, Rosie by tier, Goodcall by unique caller, Smith.ai by call, Dooza Crew as one price for the organization.
  4. Keep yourself in charge. AI can draft, fill forms and render; contracts, purchase orders, payments and design decisions stay with you.
  5. Test before you switch. Use the free plan or trial on one real project.
