Checked October 26, 2026. Prices were read on each vendor's own pricing page. Enerflo does not publish a price; OpenSolar shows no price table; we say so. Prices change: re-check before you buy. Dooza Crew is our product and our top pick for the admin side of a small installer; we say why, and where the others fit better. Aurora and OpenSolar block automated fetching, so their pages were read in a browser.
Best AI tools for solar installers: the short answer
For design and proposals, start with OpenSolar (free) or Aurora Solar. For the phone, Dialzara, Rosie or Goodcall. For the paperwork and follow-up around every job, our top pick is Dooza Crew: AI employees that chase signed documents, draft follow-up emails and take calls, $49 a month for the whole organization, and it asks before it sends anything. For call notes, Fathom has a free plan.
What we could not find on adoption
We looked for a survey from an industry association or a primary source on how many residential installers use AI, and did not find one we could quote exactly. So we give none. What we can show is what the vendors sell and what it costs. Several design tools now put AI in the design step; the phone and admin tools are general-purpose and not solar-specific, and we say so for each.
Where AI helps a small installer, and where it does not
A residential installer's week has four soft spots: leads that go cold because nobody called back, proposals that take too long to produce, paperwork that stalls after the homeowner says yes, and calls missed while the crew is on a roof. AI tools map onto those spots differently. Design software speeds up the proposal. Phone tools catch the missed call. Admin agents handle the chasing. None of them replaces the person who stands on the roof or signs the permit.
Two limits are worth knowing before you compare prices. First, AI design output is a draft: layouts, shading and production estimates need your review, and system design, permit packages and any incentive or tax-credit statement stay with you and your licensed staff. Second, most phone and admin tools are general-purpose. They will not know your equipment lines, your financing partners or your utility's rules unless you tell them, so budget an hour to write down your answers before you turn one on.
A practical way to test: pick one soft spot, run one tool on it for two weeks of real leads, and count what changed, such as callbacks returned the same day or proposals sent per week. Free plans and short trials make that cheap.

1. Dooza Crew (our product, top pick): AI employees for the installer's back office
Crew gives a small installer AI employees for the work around the install: one for the inbox, one for lead follow-up, one for chasing documents. Each has its own computer and browser, works around the clock, and works with your team in one chat. The agents pass work to each other. Before it sends an email or clicks Send, Submit or Pay, it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject.
- Example jobs you could give it: you could give one agent the job of emailing homeowners who have not returned a signed proposal, with a draft for you to approve; another the job of checking a utility or permit portal you log in to and listing the status of each job; another the job of answering the phone when you are on a roof and taking a message.
- Forms: it fills fillable PDF, Word and Excel files you upload. Scanned PDFs without form fields cannot be filled. You type your passwords and 2FA codes yourself.
- Phones: Crew agents take phone calls too, included in the plan.
- Price: free for 7 days (card required), then $49 a month for the whole organization (unlimited users and agents), AI usage included with a hard spending cap. At the cap it pauses and tells you.
- Watch for: no solar software (Aurora, OpenSolar, Solargraf, Enerflo) is certified or integrated with it, so it does not sync with your design or CRM tool; it works only in web tools you log in to. It is not a licensed electrician or installer: system design, permits, and incentive or tax advice stay with you.

2. Aurora Solar: AI-assisted design and sales proposals
Aurora's pricing page lists "AI-powered designs and automation", including "AI-assisted obstruction detection" and automated panel placement.
- Price: Basic "$159" "user/mo" "Billed monthly"; Premium $259 user/mo billed monthly; Enterprise is custom, priced per project. On the annual toggle Basic shows $135 per user per month ($1,620 a year) and Premium $220 ($2,640 a year).
- Free trial: none found on the page.
- Watch for: it is priced per user, and "AI-assisted site models" appears under Enterprise additional features, so ask which plan includes the AI you want.
3. OpenSolar: free design and sales software with AI
OpenSolar describes "free, class-leading, AI-powered software to design, sell and manage projects". Its AI, Ada, "will auto design multiple systems, according to your design preferences in seconds, for free", and the feature list includes AI Lead Gen.
4. Solargraf: design, proposal and permitting software
Solargraf calls itself "World's #1 Solar Design, Proposal & Permitting Software" and promotes an agentic AI solution to "Create projects with just a command".
- Price: Starter "$2799 USD /annually" for 240 projects and 2 users (+$11 per additional project, +$1440 per additional user); Small Business $4799 a year for 480 projects and 4 users; Teams $6399 a year; Enterprise $12999 a year for 1500 projects and unlimited users.
- Free trial: none stated; you can schedule a demo.
- Watch for: it is billed yearly by project count, so a small installer pays the Starter price up front.
5. Enerflo: an operating system for residential solar
Enerflo calls itself "the operating system (OS) for residential solar" and connects sales, design, financing and project management. The only AI the page names is a support assistant: "If Enerflo's AI assistant Flo can't help, a human is standing by."
- Price: not published; the page offers a discovery call or a callback. It states it is not available outside the U.S.
- Watch for: we found AI only in support, not in design or sales, and no price. Treat it as a workflow system, not an AI tool.
6. Rosie: AI phone answering
Rosie describes a "24/7 AI answering service that knows your business." It answers, takes messages and books appointments.
- Price: Professional $49 a month, Scale $149 a month, Growth $299 a month; a website texting add-on is $50 a month. There is an annual option marked "2 months free".
- Free trial: 7-day free trial.
- Watch for: it is not solar-specific, and it will not know your equipment, financing or incentives unless you give it answers.
7. Goodcall: AI phone answering without minute meters
Goodcall lets you "Start free with a demo agent. Add a number when you're ready."
- Price: Starter $79 a month (100 unique customers a month, then 79 cents each); Growth $129 a month (500 unique customers); Scale $299 a month (2,000 unique customers). Goodcall says "We never meter minutes."
- Watch for: it bills per unique caller, and it is not connected to your solar software.
8. Dialzara: the cheapest AI receptionist here
Dialzara lists "AI receptionist plans from $29/month".
- Price: Business Lite $29 a month for up to 60 minutes of talk time, then $0.48 a minute; Business Pro $99 a month for 220 minutes, then $0.45 a minute; Business Plus $199 a month. Done for You starts at $1,500 a month.
- Free trial: 7-day free trial.
- Watch for: minutes are metered, so a busy spring can push you into overage.
9. Fathom: free AI notes for sales calls
Fathom records video calls with "Instant AI call summaries", handy for remote proposal calls with homeowners.
- Price: Free forever; Premium $20 a month per user ($16 on the annual rate); Team $19 per user (2-user minimum).
- Watch for: it covers video calls, not kitchen-table visits or roof inspections, and it is not built for solar.
Free AI tools and trials for solar installers
- Design: OpenSolar describes itself as free.
- Call notes: Fathom's free forever plan.
- Phones: Goodcall's free demo agent; 7-day free trials at Rosie and Dialzara.
- Admin: Dooza Crew, free for 7 days (card required).
How to choose an AI tool for your solar business
- Start with the job that costs you jobs. Missed calls, slow proposals, or chasing paperwork after the sale.
- Decide where design lives. Pick one of OpenSolar, Aurora or Solargraf and test a real roof, not the demo house.
- Do the math per user or per project. Aurora charges per user; Solargraf per project band; phone tools per month or per caller.
- Keep sign-off human. Pick tools that ask before they send, and keep design, permits and incentive or tax advice with you.
- Ask what is integrated. Most phone and admin tools do not sync with solar software; plan to copy results over.
