Checked October 26, 2026. Prices were read on each vendor's own pricing page. Aftershoot publishes only starting prices, and Pic-Time does not show which plans include its AI features, so we say so. Imagen AI and Adobe Lightroom would not load for us, so they are left out. Prices change: re-check before you buy. Dooza Crew is our product and our top pick for the business side of a photography studio; we say why, and where the others fit better.
Best AI tools for photographers: the short answer
Our top pick for the business side of a photography studio is Dooza Crew: AI employees that work the inquiry inbox, draft replies and follow-ups, fill forms and take phone calls, $49 a month for the whole organization, and it asks before it sends anything. For culling and editing the photos, look at Aftershoot or Narrative Select. For retouching, Evoto. For galleries, Pixieset or Pic-Time. For contracts and invoices with AI, HoneyBook.
How many photographers use AI in 2026
Most of them. A survey run by VSCO found "AI is now widely adopted with 83% of all photographers using it in their workflows." For people who earn money from photography, "68% of working photographers use AI weekly or daily, double the rate of enthusiasts."
The survey was "fielded to photographers across the U.S. and Canada in December 2025 via UserTesting." It covers 401 photographers, VSCO sells a photo app, and hobbyists are in the sample, so read it as a direction. It does say the main uses are culling, editing and business tasks such as pricing and client communication.

1. Dooza Crew (our product, top pick): AI employees for the business side
Crew gives a photographer AI employees, each with its own computer and browser and its own job. They work around the clock, work with your team in one chat, and pass work to each other. Before one sends an email or clicks Send, Submit or Pay, it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject. Crew does not edit photos; it handles the admin around the shoot.
Some jobs you could give it, as tasks rather than promises:
- You could give one agent the job of working the inquiry inbox: sorting new leads from the rest and drafting a reply with your packages for you to approve.
- You could give one agent the job of drafting follow-ups to inquiries that went quiet, which you approve before anything is sent.
- You could give one agent the job of filling fillable PDF, Word and Excel files you upload, such as venue or vendor forms. Scanned PDFs without form fields cannot be filled.
- Works in: web-based tools you log in to with a browser. You type passwords and 2FA codes yourself.
- Phones: Crew agents take phone calls too, included in the plan.
- Price: free for 7 days (card required), then $49 a month for the whole organization (unlimited users and agents), AI usage included with a hard spending cap. At the cap it pauses and tells you.
- Watch for: it does not edit photos, and no photography software is certified or integrated, so try it on your own tools during the trial. Creative choices, contracts and client image rights stay with you.

2. Aftershoot: cull, edit and retouch in one place
Aftershoot describes itself this way: "Cull, edit, retouch, and deliver — one complete platform, built for professional photographers." You can choose automated culling for a hands-off first pass or assisted culling to stay in control.
3. Narrative Select: AI culling with presets trained on your edits
Narrative Select culls with AI and sends the picks on to Lightroom, Photoshop or Capture One. Higher plans add AI editing, including presets trained on your own edits.
4. Evoto AI: credit-based retouching
Evoto does AI retouching and editing, priced in credits, "From 1 credit per photo". Its Starter plan has 800 credits.
- Price: Starter (800 credits) is US$71 a year during a promotion, down from US$89; Basic (1,600 credits) is US$119 a year; Basic Plus (3,600 credits) is US$215; Standard (9,000 credits) is US$463. Credits roll over while you subscribe.
- Free trial: "7-Day Free Trial", with 50 free credits to try full features.
- Watch for: the prices above are promotional and will change, and credits mean the cost grows with the number of photos you retouch.
5. Pixieset Photo Editor: AI editing and culling next to your galleries
Pixieset sells AI editing and culling for photographers: batch editing in your style, personal AI styles trained on your own edits, and AI tools to erase, generate and heal.
- Price: one plan, Pro, at "$12 /month" billed annually or $18 monthly, with "unlimited culling and editing. No per-image charges."
- Free trial: none stated for the editor. Pixieset's client gallery has a separate free plan.
- Watch for: it is a newer part of Pixieset, so compare its results with a dedicated culling tool on a real wedding gallery.
6. Pic-Time: client galleries with AI search and album design
Pic-Time lists "AI-Powered Gallery Search" (keyword and face recognition for your clients) and "AI-powered album creation built seamlessly into your gallery."
- Price (Client Delivery Suite): Free $0; Beginner $7 a month billed annually ($8 monthly); Professional $21 ($25 monthly); Advanced $42 ($50 monthly).
- Free trial: a free plan.
- Watch for: the page text does not show which plans include the AI album designer and smart search, so check before you buy.
7. HoneyBook: contracts, invoices and AI for the studio
HoneyBook handles contracts, invoices, payments and scheduling. HoneyBook AI is listed in all three plans: "Generate outputs based on your unique business. Just ask." It can also "Describe your process and let AI build the workflow.", and it includes a meeting notetaker.
8. Goodcall: an AI phone agent
Goodcall builds AI phone agents for small businesses; it is not made for photographers, so test it on your booking questions. "No per-minute charges." You pay per unique caller in a month.
- Price: Starter $79 a month for 100 unique customers (79 cents each after that); Growth $129 for 500; Scale $299 for 2,000.
- Free trial: "Start free with a demo agent. Add a number when you're ready."
- Watch for: it does not know your calendar or packages unless you set that up, and you should check what it tells a prospect about availability and price.
9. Fathom: free notes for client calls
Fathom records and summarizes calls: "Unlimited meetings captured & instant AI summaries". Useful for consultation calls and planning calls, where you would otherwise scribble notes about timelines and shot lists.
- Price: a free plan, free forever; Premium $20 a month per user; Team $19 ($15 billed annually, 2-user minimum); Business $34 ($25 annually).
- Watch for: tell clients you are recording, and check the summary before you rely on a date, a price or a promise it captured.
Free AI tools and trials for photographers
- Fathom: free forever for call notes.
- Pic-Time: a free gallery plan.
- Goodcall: a free demo agent; you pay when you connect a number.
- Trials: Aftershoot 30 days (no card), HoneyBook 30 days (no card), Evoto 7 days with 50 free credits, Narrative Select free trial of Ultra (no card), Dooza Crew 7 days (card required).
How to choose an AI tool for your studio
- Start with the job that eats the most hours. Culling a wedding, editing, retouching, chasing inquiries or answering calls.
- Test on a real gallery. Run a recent wedding or session through two culling tools and compare how many picks you would change.
- Check how you pay. Aftershoot and Narrative charge flat plans; Evoto charges in credits per photo; Pixieset and Pic-Time sit beside your galleries.
- Keep the creative calls with you. AI gives you a first pass. You pick, edit and approve, and you decide what goes out under your name.
- Read the terms on client images. Check how each vendor stores and uses uploaded photos before you upload a client gallery.
