Checked October 26, 2026. Prices were read on each vendor's own pricing page. Prices change: re-check before you buy. Dooza Crew is our product and our top pick; we say why, and where the others fit better. Honest note: most software built for tattoo studios has little AI in it today, so this list mixes AI phone answering and meeting notes with the booking software shops already use.

Best AI tools for tattoo studios: the short answer

For booking, deposits and consent forms, Apprentice or Tattoo Studio Pro, with Vagaro or Booksy as general options. For the phone, Rosie, Goodcall or Dialzara. For the emails, reminders and admin around your bookings, our top pick is Dooza Crew: AI employees that draft follow-ups and take calls, $49 a month for the whole organization, and it asks before it sends anything. For notes from online consults, Fathom has a free plan.

Where AI helps a tattoo studio, and where it does not

A tattoo artist's day is mostly drawing, preparing and tattooing, and AI cannot do any of that. The parts that cost time are around it: answering "how much for a sleeve?" while your hands are busy, chasing deposits, sending appointment reminders and aftercare emails, and tracking walk-ins and enquiries from Instagram. Phone tools catch the call you could not answer. Admin agents draft the reminders and follow-ups. Booking software holds the schedule, deposits and forms.

The limit is responsibility. Checking a client's age and ID, asking the health questions, taking consent and deciding whether to tattoo are yours, and your state or local health rules decide what you must record. Use AI for the paperwork around the work, not for those checks.

What we could not find on adoption

We looked for a survey from a trade association or another primary source on how many tattoo studios use AI, and did not find one we could quote exactly; the roundups we found were written by software vendors. So we give none. What we can show is what the vendors sell and what it costs.

The tools, one by one

1. Dooza Crew (our product, top pick): AI employees for the studio's admin

Crew gives a tattoo studio AI employees for the admin: one for the inbox, one for enquiries, one for chasing paperwork. Each has its own computer and browser, works around the clock, and works with your team in one chat. The agents pass work to each other. Before it sends an email or clicks Send, Submit or Pay, it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject.

  • Example jobs you could give it: you could give one agent the job of drafting appointment reminder and aftercare emails for you to approve; another the job of answering the phone while your hands are busy and taking a message; another the job of filling a fillable intake or waiver PDF you upload.
  • Forms: it fills fillable PDF, Word and Excel files you upload. Scanned PDFs without form fields cannot be filled. You type your passwords and 2FA codes yourself.
  • Phones: Crew agents take phone calls too, included in the plan.
  • Price: free for 7 days (card required), then $49 a month for the whole organization (unlimited users and agents), AI usage included with a hard spending cap. At the cap it pauses and tells you.
  • Watch for: no tattoo studio software (Apprentice, Tattoo Studio Pro, Vagaro, Booksy) is certified or integrated with it, so it does not sync with your booking system; it works only in web tools you log in to. It is not a licensed tattoo artist: health, consent and age checks stay with you.

Try Dooza Crew free for 7 days.

2. Apprentice: tattoo studio software with an AI generator

Apprentice is studio software for tattoo, piercing, PMU and tooth gems. Its artist plans include a "Stencil & AI Tattoo Generator".

  • Price: Free at $0 forever with 50 AI generations a month and up to 50 clients; Pro $24.99 a month with unlimited AI generations and clients; Studio Pro $59.99 a month with 3 artist accounts included, then $19.99 a month for each additional artist. Payments cost Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30 plus Apprentice's 2% platform fee, which you can choose to pass on to the client.
  • Free trial: 14-day free trial, no credit card required.
  • Watch for: the AI is a design and stencil tool for the artist, not a front-desk assistant; it will not answer your phone.

3. Tattoo Studio Pro: booking, deposits and consent forms

Tattoo Studio Pro calls itself "Tattoo studio software that runs the front desk for you." We found no AI feature on the pages we read, so it is the booking and forms system you would run beside an AI tool.

  • Price: the Solo plan is $29 a month; Crew is $69 a month for up to 5 active team members; Empire is a custom plan for larger studios.
  • Free trial: 30-day free trial, cancel anytime.
  • Watch for: no AI found; check the current feature list if AI matters to you.

4. Vagaro: a general booking system with an AI assistant

Vagaro says its "AI assistant, Vera, helps automate marketing, fill empty appointment slots, create descriptions, and communicate with clients." Its signup form lists "Tattoo & Piercing" as a business type.

  • Price: $23.99 a month (list $30.00) for one location and one calendar, as an exclusive rate for the first 6 months. Each extra bookable calendar costs $10 a month, up to seven.
  • Free trial: 30-day free trial.
  • Watch for: it is a general beauty and wellness system, not tattoo-specific, and the $23.99 rate lasts six months.

5. Booksy: a booking system with an AI Receptionist in beta

Booksy's AI Receptionist works like this: "Clients call the same number as always, your receptionist picks up the call and completes the booking for them."

  • Price: $29.99 a month plus tax, with extra users at $20 a month each. The AI Receptionist price is not published.
  • Free trial: 14-day trial.
  • Watch for: the AI Receptionist is in beta and its page is titled for salons and barbershops, so check that it handles tattoo consults and deposits the way your shop does.

6. Rosie: AI phone answering

Rosie says: "Join 2,000+ small businesses using Rosie to answer calls, book appointments, and capture leads 24/7."

  • Price: Professional $49 a month, Scale $149 a month, Growth $299 a month.
  • Free trial: 7-day free trial.
  • Watch for: it is not built for tattooing; it knows nothing about your books, flash or policies unless you tell it.

7. Goodcall: AI phone answering without minute meters

Goodcall lets you "Start free with a demo agent. Add a number when you're ready."

  • Price: Starter $79 a month (100 unique customers a month, then 79 cents each); Growth $129 a month; Scale $299 a month. Goodcall says "We never meter minutes."
  • Watch for: it bills per unique caller, so a busy month of enquiries can pass the 100.

8. Dialzara: the cheapest AI receptionist here

Dialzara lists "AI receptionist plans from $29/month" and says "No contract. Cancel anytime."

  • Price: Business Lite $29 a month for up to 60 minutes of talk time, then $0.48 a minute; Business Pro $99 a month for 220 minutes, then $0.45 a minute.
  • Free trial: 7-day free trial.
  • Watch for: minutes are metered, so long enquiry calls add up.

9. Fathom: free AI notes for video calls

Fathom offers "Unlimited recordings, instant call summaries, integrations with LLMs & more." It suits online design consults and remote guest-artist calls.

  • Price: Free forever; the Team plan is $15 to $19 a month per user, depending on the monthly or annual toggle, with a two-user minimum.
  • Watch for: it covers video calls only, not in-person consults or the phone line.

Free AI tools and trials for tattoo studios

  • Design and booking: Apprentice's free plan with 50 AI generations a month.
  • Call notes: Fathom's free forever plan.
  • Phones: Goodcall's free demo agent; 7-day free trials at Rosie and Dialzara.
  • Software trials: Tattoo Studio Pro 30 days; Vagaro 30 days; Booksy 14 days; Apprentice 14 days.
  • Admin: Dooza Crew, free for 7 days (card required).

Questions to ask before you buy

Whatever you pick, a few questions save money. Does the price count per artist, per user, per caller or per minute? Apprentice adds $19.99 a month per extra artist beyond three on Studio Pro, Booksy adds $20 a month per extra user, Goodcall charges per unique caller after 100 on Starter, and Dialzara charges per minute after the included time. What do payments cost? Apprentice lists Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30 plus a 2% platform fee, so compare that with your current processor.

Then ask what happens to your records. Consent forms and client files may need to be kept for a set period under your local rules, so check that you can export them if you switch software. And decide in advance what the AI may say. A phone agent that quotes a price for a piece, or tells a caller they are old enough to book, is a problem; write the rule down and give it only the answers you are happy to stand behind.

How to choose an AI tool for your studio

  1. Start with the job that eats your time. Missed calls, deposit chasing, reminders or enquiry replies.
  2. Pick your booking and consent software first. Phone and admin tools sit beside it; most do not sync with it.
  3. Do the math the vendor's way. Per artist, per user, per caller or per minute give very different bills.
  4. Keep sign-off human. Pick tools that ask before they send, and keep age, health and consent checks with you.
  5. Run a short trial on real enquiries. Count calls answered and reminders sent over two weeks before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best AI tool for tattoo studios?

For the phone, Dialzara starts at $29 a month, Rosie at $49 and Goodcall at $79. For booking, deposits and consent forms, shops use software such as Apprentice (free plan; Pro $24.99 a month) or Tattoo Studio Pro (from $29 a month), though only some of it has AI. For the admin around your bookings, our top pick is Dooza Crew (our product): AI employees that answer the phone and draft emails and reminders, $49 a month for the whole organization after a 7-day free trial, and they ask before they send anything.

Does tattoo studio software have AI?

Some does. Apprentice includes a stencil and AI tattoo generator for artists, with 50 AI generations a month on its free plan. Vagaro has an AI assistant called Vera, and Booksy has an AI Receptionist in beta, though both are general beauty and wellness systems. Tattoo Studio Pro, a tattoo-specific system, showed no AI feature on the pages we read.

Can AI answer the phone for a tattoo shop?

Yes. Dialzara starts at $29 a month, Rosie at $49 and Goodcall at $79, and Dooza Crew agents also take phone calls, included in the $49 plan. They take messages and answer basic questions; age checks, health questions and consent stay with you.

Does Dooza Crew work with Apprentice, Tattoo Studio Pro, Vagaro or Booksy?

No. No tattoo studio software, including Apprentice, Tattoo Studio Pro, Vagaro and Booksy, is certified or integrated with Dooza Crew, so it does not sync with your booking system. It works only in web tools you log in to with a browser, and you type passwords and 2FA codes yourself.

Can AI check a client's age or take consent?

No. Health, consent and age checks stay with you. Dooza Crew is not a licensed tattoo artist. Before a Dooza Crew agent sends an email or clicks Send, Submit or Pay, it asks you to Approve, Edit or Reject, so nothing about a client's booking or health reaches them without you.

Is there a free AI tool for tattoo studios?

Apprentice has a free plan with 50 AI generations a month, and Fathom has a free forever plan for notes on video calls. Goodcall lets you test a free demo agent. Trials: Tattoo Studio Pro 30 days, Vagaro 30 days, Booksy 14 days, Rosie and Dialzara 7 days, and Dooza Crew 7 days (card required).

Try Dooza Crew
