ChatGPT Work

OpenAI launched Work in July 2026. In OpenAI's words: "Research a topic, analyze information, or create a document, spreadsheet, presentation, report, or Site."

Before you buy: the cloud browser is not on the Free or Go plans, availability can vary during rollout, and usage is metered like Codex, so OpenAI does not promise a fixed number of tasks a month.

Claude Cowork

Cowork is the agent mode in Claude, and the pricing page now says "Claude Cowork is now just Claude." It is "available to paid Claude plans (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise) only."

Before you buy: for local files, browser use and computer use you need "The Claude Desktop app for macOS or Windows, open and connected."

Pricing

ChatGPT Work comes with paid ChatGPT plans (some features differ by plan). ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month. Pro comes in $100, $200 and $500 a month tiers. ChatGPT Business Standard is $25 per user a month billed monthly ($20 billed annually). Work is metered like Codex, and OpenAI does not publish a fixed task count for it.

Claude Cowork (claude.com/pricing, October 22, 2026): not on the Free plan. Pro $20 a month billed monthly, or $17 a month billed annually. Max from $100 a month. Team, for 2 to 150 people: the premium seat, which includes Claude Code and Claude Cowork, is $125 a month billed monthly or $100 billed annually.

Which should you pick?

  • Pick ChatGPT Work if you want research and finished documents, spreadsheets and decks, done in a cloud browser that does not need your computer, with triggers from Gmail, Slack or GitHub.
  • Pick Claude Cowork if your work lives in files on your Mac or Windows computer and in your own logged-in browser, and you want to choose between Manual, Auto and Skip approvals.

What if you run a small business?
